HAIRGROW is a topical solution contains 2% Minoxidil (each 1ml contains 20mg Minoxidil) or 5% Minoxidil (each 1ml contains 50mg Minoxidil).

Description:
A clear colourless to yellowish topical solution with alcoholic odour.

Pharmacodynamics/ Pharmacokinetics:
Hairgrow (minoxidil): when applied topically, has shown to stimulate hair growth in individuals with alopecia androgenetica “male pattern baldness”. The exact mechanism of action of minoxidil in the treatment of male pattern baldness is not known. However, twice daily application for 4 months (or more) may be required to observe hair growth. Relapse to pretreatment appearance following discontinuation of the drug may occur after 3 – 4 months.
Minoxidil is poorly absorbed from normal intact skin. About 1.4% of the dose might reach the systemic circulation. However, clinical trials showed no systemic effects, after topical application of minoxidil. When given orally with a daily dose of 5 – 50mg minoxidil reduces high blood pressure by decreasing peripheral vascular resistance.

Indication:
Hairgrow is indicated for the treatment of alopecia androgenetica “male pattern baldness”. Hairgrow stimulates hair growth.

Dosage and administration:
Hair and scalp should be dried prior to Hairgrow application. A dose of 1ml (the equivalent of eight sprays) should be applied to the vertex or to the affected area of the scalp twice daily. The total daily dosage should not exceed 2ml. Continuous daily application for four months or longer may be required before evidence of hair regrowth can be expected. Onset and degree of hair growth may be variable among patients. Continuous application of Hairgrow is necessary to sustain regrowth.

Method of Application
Direct the pump spray nozzle to the required area of the scalp. Press the pump once and spread Hairgrow with fingertips to cover all the area. Repeat for a total of 8 times to apply a dose of 1ml of solution.
Do not use a hair dryer to speed up the drying of Hairgrow because this will decrease its effectiveness.
Wash hands thoroughly after application. For external use only.

Contraindications:
It is contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to minoxidil. Safety and effectiveness in males under 18 and over 65 years of age have not been established. Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist. Cardiovascular disease, hypertension, skin irritation abrasion includes scalp psoriasis or severe sunburn.

Warnings and Precautions:

Minoxidil topical solution will cause burning and irritation of the eye. In case of contact with eye, abraded skin or mucous membrane the area should be washed with water. Accidental ingestion of the solution could lead to serious adverse effects since minoxidil, when taken orally, produces a direct peripheral vasodilator affect. Keep out of reach of children.

Pregnancy and lactation:
Not known Interactions with other medicaments: There is currently no known drug interactions associated with the use of Hairgrow topical solution. Although it has not been clinically demonstrated there exists the possibility of potentiating orthostatic hypotension in patients concurrently taking guanethidine.

Side effects:
The most common adverse effects are dermatological reactions. Irritation such as erythema, flushing, dermatitis, dry skin, hypertrichosis, burning sensation were recorded. Rarely reported adverse side effects are allergic reaction, dizziness, tingling sensation, headache, weakness, neuritis, oederma, eye irritation, altered taste, ear infection and visual disturbances. Very rarely reported adverse reaction includes alopecia, hair
abnormalities, chest pain, blood pressure changes, hepatitis and kidney calculi.

Overdosage and Treatment:
Accidental ingestion may produce systemic effects due to minoxidil vasodilatory actions. Signs and symptoms of overdosage are most likely cardiovascular effects associated with fluid retention, lowered blood pressure or tachycardia. Fluid retention can be managed with appropriate diuretic therapy. Tachycardia can be controlled by administration of a - adrenergic blocking agent. Hypotension should be treated by I.V. administration of normal saline. Sympathomimetic drugs e.g. norepinephrine and epinephrine should be avoided because of their excessive cardiac- stimulating activity.

Storage conditions:
Protect from light. Store between 15°C ~ 30ºC. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
